Utah Red Rocks - First Meet of 2014 Season

The Utah Red Rocks started their season with a quad meet against BYU, Southern Utah, and Boise State.  The night got off to a demoralizing start when Kassandra Lopez tore her Achilles during pre-meet warm-ups.  The team and the fans will miss her dearly.  Speaking of fans, announced attendance for this meet was 14,910, and apparently over 7,000 season tickets have been sold.  Should be an exciting year.

Given the crowded floor (four teams, judges, coaches, video, photographers, score runners, etc.), I opted for a setup that wouldn't require me running back and forth to a bag of equipment, so I shot the entire meet with two lenses, a 35 f/1.4 and 70-200 f/2.8.  I used the 35 for vault, bars and on a second body for floor; the 70-200 was used for beam and on my main body for floor.  I love the convenience of the zoom, but the results aren't quite as wow-inspiring as some of the images produced by my 200 f/1.8 lens.

Here are a bunch of photos from the meet.  Let me know what you think!
